In an NCAA Tournament with fewer highlights than usual, Deonte Burton is filling up the empty space.

The Iowa State forward threw down a thunderous, one-handed slam with 7:23 left in the first half of Saturday’s second round game against Purdue, capping a 23-7 run that brought the Cyclones within 65-62 after the game seemed completely lost even midway through the second half.

Biggie Swanigan wanted no part of that.

Maybe that’s because he saw the film of Thursday’s first round game against Nevada, when Burton drove in from the left wing for a thunderous one-hander in the first half:

It’s been a classic frontcourt battle in the Purdue-Iowa State game with Burton going for 20 points so far and Swanigan flirting with a triple-double at 18 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists still with a few minutes remaining in regulation.
