The Duke-North Carolina rivalry goes well beyond the basketball court, and apparently beyond the student newspapers too. After UNC’s collapse versus the Blue Devils in Chapel Hill back in February, resulting in a crushing 74-73 loss, there has been quite a lot of material for Duke fans and students to work with in advance of the Saturday’s rematch.

Accordingly, Duke Student Broadcasting came up with this parody of those famed ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) commercials. Take a look:

As soon as you hear those piano notes and Sarah McLachlan’s voice, it is heartbreaking. Or maybe it makes your skin crawl. Either way, you are probably crying. It’s powerful stuff that just reaches into your chest, especially for UNC fans who have seen the Tar Heels lose four in a row to their rivals.

Duke students are (begrudgingly) some of the smartest fans in all of college basketball, but this takes the cake. (I am a Maryland fan that wrote something nice about Duke. I need a shower.)

“Right now, there’s a Tar Heel who needs you,” says the appropriately solemn narrator. “Your click says, ‘I’m here to help.’”

No. 8 North Carolina travels to Durham to face No. 17 Duke, with tip-off scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET Saturday. ESPN has the broadcast.
