For the second time this month, former Baylor tight end Tre’von Armstead has been arrested. A little more than a week after being charged for an incident at a Las Vegas hotel, Armstead is now being charged for a sexual assault that allegedly occurred four years ago.

The Dallas Morning News reports newly discovered evidence in an ongoing investigation led to Armstead being charged with sexual assault of a woman from an incident that took place in 2013. The district attorney in McLennan County, Abel Reyna, says the investigation has included the cooperation of Baylor University.

Baylor reportedly handed over evidence it has discovered recently as the school works to internally investigate its handling of sexual assault allegations in the past within the football program. Armstead’s 2013 incident played a key role in the scandal that brewed in Waco and led to the dismissal of head coach Art Briles. Bail for Armstead was set at $150,000.

Earlier this month, Armstead was arrested and charged for battery domestic violence, resisting arrest and damaging a police car. Police witnessed Armstead push a woman at a Las Vegas hotel and Armstead fought off officers while they moved in to arrest him. Once in the police car, the former Baylor football player kicked out the back window. It is unknown if the woman in the 2013 incident is the same as the Las Vegas hotel incident. What is known is the alleged victim from the 2013 allegation has filed a lawsuit against Baylor University.

Armstead was dismissed by the football program in 2015. Waco police informed Baylor of the 2013 allegations, but because there were no charges levied against Armstead or teammate Shamycheal Chatman at the time, it was decided there would be no repercussions for the football program.

We’ll see how this case proceeds, but it’s yet one more story about the problems with Baylor’s football program.
