Georgia football assistant equipment manager Kevin Purvis has been fired and arrested after allegedly planting a hidden camera in the Bulldogs locker-room shower.

Per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Purvis, 37, was charged Friday night with three felony counts of eavesdropping and surveillance, in addition to one felony and one misdemeanor drug charge. He was reportedly released from jail Saturday afternoon on $8,500 bail. Via the Journal-Constitution:

Purvis’ arrest came nearly a month after an unidentified person found a camera hidden in a shower area of Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall. UGA officials called police on Feb. 27 and an investigation was immediately initiated. Several people witnessed police conducting a search of a car — believed to belong to Purvis — in the Butts-Mehre employee parking lot while a Georgia baseball game was being played across the street. Police also searched the first floor of the building, which is where the football team’s locker room, training facility and weight room are located, and Purvis’ Timothy Road residence.

A Georgia spokesman told the Journal-Constitution that Purvis, who had reportedly worked for the Bulldogs since 2006, was terminated early in a university investigation into the incident. The school said that “based on the findings of the police investigation, no student-athletes were victims in this incident.”

Details of the specific accusations against Purvis remain somewhat sparse, so we don’t know what his ultimate objective was in allegedly hiding the camera, but we will keep an eye on this story as it unfolds.
