There isn’t a hotter coaching prospect right now then Tom Herman, the former offensive coordinator of Ohio State and the current head coach of Houston. Herman brings enough of a resume and enough new ideas to make him a “good” hire.
He is thought of highly enough that he is currently the only person listed as the next possible Texas head coach, according to at least one sports betting site.
The odds don’t get much more lopsided either. Bovada has a simple question regarding the next head coach of Texas: will Herman be the team’s coach for the 2017 season? Odds opened up at -500 for “yes” and +300 for “no”, but have since tightened up to -300 for “yes” and +200 for “no”.
Brett McMurphy on Mike & Mike said there could be a bidding war for Tom Herman with Texas, LSU, A&M, and Oregon starting price $5.5 million.

After Charlie Strong’s embarrassing loss to Kansas last weekend, he is left in no man’s land, and many players are threatening to walk if Strong is fired. Herman will have an uphill battle if he ends up going to Texas, not only from a public perception point of view, but also making sure that the players are on board with him.
If I'm Tom Herman and I have options, I'm taking note of the way Texas is humiliating a good man right now before I make any decisions.

Herman has made Houston into a contender and has done it with limited recruiting resources. Once you reach the head coaching job at a university like Texas, everything intensifies. Some are able to handle the pressure, and others like Strong wither away.
Is Herman enough of a sure thing to make such a bet on him? It’s a question that the Longhorns, and potential bettors, will need to ask themselves in the coming days and weeks.
