According to Bovada, Louisville Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson is by far the favorite the Heisman trophy. The odds of the Cardinals QB are down to 1/2 to take the sport’s most prestigious award after being 6/1 a week ago.
Jackson has 18 TD’s, which are more than all but seven teams have scored through three weeks of football.
The favorite from a week ago, Clemson’s DeShaun Watson, has gone from 5/1 to 8/1, in anticipation of the meeting between Jackson and Watson in Clemson on October 1. Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey went from 9/2 to 11/2, and Ohio State’s J.T Barrett held steady at 6/1. Houston’s Greg Ward, who missed the Cougars game against Lamar, went from 25/1 to 16/1 in the past week.
The Bovada preseason Heisman favorite, LSU’s Leonard Fournette, is now 20/1 after Week 3. He started at 4/1 this season.
So Lamar Jackson’s hype train continues to speed up with each passing game, and now it’s more likely that he wins the Heisman than the field. But considering how few expected him to be where he is now, more changes to the Heisman horse race are expected to come in the weeks ahead. But when any player hits 1/2 Heisman Odds in September, it’s worth taking notice.
