John Franklin III has had quite the college career. The quarterback first started his college career at Florida State before transferring to the home of Last Chance U, East Mississippi Community College. After one year at EMCC, Franklin went to Auburn where he played a season before leaving for his new home, Florida Atlantic.
In short, Franklin has moved around a lot during his college career. The thing is though, the 22-year-old hasn’t just moved around to a bunch of different schools, but also all over the field. Franklin has thrown and ran the ball a ton during his career at FSU, EMCC, and Auburn. At Auburn specifically, Franklin III was the backup QB and was 14-26 with 204 passing yards and a touchdown. The QB also added 430 rushing yards on 46 carries as well.
Despite contributing to the Tigers this past season, Franklin III still felt the need to change things up and announced his intent to transfer to FAU on Instagram.
“I’m coming home and looking forward to playing my last collegiate season at FAU under coach Lane Kiffin and excited to see what God has in store for me on this journey,” Franklin III said.
The above quote about Kiffin is an extremely interesting point here. Franklin is the third EMCC transfer to make their way to FAU and play under Kiffin. The other two former Lions are quarterback De’Andre Johnson (who also went to FSU at one point like Franklin III), and defensive end Tim Bonner, who had previously signed with Louisville.
Outside those three players, there is another former EMCC product in Kiffin’s program, only he’s a coach. Clint Trickett was the quarterbacks coach at EMCC — and former West Virginia quarterback — and is the new tight ends coach under Kiffin at FAU this upcoming season.
With Franklin III transferring to FAU, the QB keeps his name on a growing list of former EMCC players on Division I rosters this season. Here are other former EMCC products playing for DI schools this season:
