Christmas has become so much about the material presents that people give to one another, but sometimes the most special gift of all is literally just showing up.

Young LSU Tigers football fan Alexis Palermo wrote Santa to let him know that his “favorite 10-year-old” thought hard about what she wanted for Christmas.

“I really LOVE LSU football and my favorite player by far is Derrius Guice. Did you know he broke a record last week? If you can get him to sign a football for me, then it would be the best gift I could ask for.”

She added, “P.S. Tell Guice that he rules football.”

Santa, being Santa, did Alexis one better. He got in touch with Guice, the junior RB who is the only player in SEC history with three games of 250 or more rushing yards. Not only did he sign a football for Alexis, he showed up at her house to deliver it in person.

In case there was any doubt, we think Alexis is locked in as an LSU fan and a Guice fan for life. It’s a great gesture by a young man who understands the power of his position and a reminder that it doesn’t take much to be a positive role model in this world, Christmas or otherwise.

The Notre Dame defense may not be as welcoming as Alexis when LSU takes on the Irish in the Citrus Bowl on January 1.
