Everyone knows they take college football seriously in Alabama, but even so, it’s tough not to do a double-take over a story Alabama.com reported Tuesday.

According to the news site, a man in Mobile, Alabama was shot amid an argument over who was better at football, Alabama or Auburn.

Mobile police responded to a call concerning a person who was shot at a motel on East I-65 Service Road South at 7:53 p.m. The victim told authorities he was arguing with another man when the shooter asked him which football team is better. The shooter became angry, pulled out a firearm and shot the victim in the thigh before fleeing the scene, police said.

The victim’s injuries are reportedly not life-threatening. The alleged shooter is not in custody but will be charged will second-degree assault when he is brought in, per Alabama.com.

There is no word yet on whether the man who was shot was arguing for the Tigers or the Crimson Tide. It’s kind of hard to figure how anyone would defend the Auburn side of that argument, given that ‘Bama is undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the AP and Coaches polls, as well as by the College Football Playoff Committee.

Auburn and Alabama will play on November 25 at Jordan–Hare Stadium. As the game approaches, remember: If a guy at an Alabama motel asks you who will win, do not answer.
