Throwing in the towel? Michigan Wolverines’ defensive back Austin Brenner brought one of the weirdest approaches to pass coverage in Saturday’s highly-anticipated game against Ohio State while trying to cover Buckeyes’ receiver Austin Mack deep, grabbing Mack’s towel and flailing away at the ball with it. It didn’t work:

Mack still made the catch, and then survived getting sandwiched between Brenner and O’Maury Samuels. Samuels actually appeared to take the worst of the collision. But Brenner’s towel defense definitely didn’t pan out here, and he essentially wound up waving the white flag. Hopefully that doesn’t become the larger story for Michigan; the Wolverines were up 14-0 early and led 20-14 at the time of this play, but have since fallen behind 24-20 in the fourth quarter. But at least Brenner prevented Mack from knowing where his towel was…
