When fans make their way to the field of play following a big win in college football, there is a chance a gasket might be blown and an ugly sequence of events could unfold. We came close on Saturday as Ohio State fans rushed the field in Ohio Stadium following a double overtime victory over Michigan.

Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers was caught on camera appearing to grab and shoving an Ohio State fan, perhaps with some words exchanged between the two, as the Ohio State fan made his way back the Michigan all-purpose star.

What is unknown, of course, is what the Ohio State fan may have said to Peppers in passing. I’m almost inclined to give Peppers a pass here until we know if this Buckeyes fan truly was without fault.

We’ll have to see if the Big Ten office will review the incident and weigh in with any form of response to what transpired here, but all things considered, this could have been much worse than it ended up and it would be unlikely the Big Ten would see any reason to go over the top here in any way. The same may not be true for Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, who had some openly negative comments about the officiating in the loss to Ohio State. Harbaugh will most certainly be hearing from Jim Delany’s office in the coming days.
