For the first time since the 2009-10 season, Northwestern basketball is ranked. They checked in at #25 in this week’s AP poll after beating Nebraska on Thursday and Indiana on Sunday, both in Evanston.
The Associated Press seemingly had no idea what the hell to do with this, given that no logo came up next to the Wildcats’ name on the poll.
NORTHWESTERN BASKETBALL IS RANKED! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!
P.S. Love how AP didn't even have logo ready just, ya know, in case of emergency. pic.twitter.com/feRdvAV1e2

Northwestern basketball responded on Twitter, and gave the AP a logo to use.
Hey @AP_Top25, you can use this logo for the rest of the season and beyond. 😉#B1GCats | #PoundTheRock pic.twitter.com/fhDzkZbKGt

Of course, the AP ignored Northwestern and used the school’s old N-Cat logo…with some empty white space on either side

This is all fine.
The Wildcats are 18-4 on the season and 7-2 in the Big Ten, putting them third in the conference behind the 7-1 duo of Maryland and Wisconsin. Northwestern plays just once this week, at #23 Purdue on Wednesday. Win, and the team will rise in the poll. Lose, and the team will probably drop out – though they really shouldn’t, given that their four losses this season are against ranked teams Butler and Notre Dame, and Big Ten foes Minnesota and Michigan State.
