Sam Darnold might be the No. 1 pick in next year’s NFL Draft, which means he’s almost certainly going to end up on a very bad team.

Right now, he’s lobbying to make sure that team isn’t too bad. His message to them: Please don’t tank too hard for me.

Here’s what the USC Trojans quarterback said in an interview with ESPN:

Darnold: “I don’t really have many thoughts about that, but I’ve definitely heard of it.”

ESPN: “Are you flattered by it a little bit?”

Darnold: “Yeah, you’ve gotta be, but you know, I don’t think any team should tank their season because of me.”

Condolences to future Cleveland Browns quarterback Sam Darnold and the 1-15 team he takes over.
