Former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor’s five-year disassociation ban from the school expired Tuesday, meaning Pryor can now return to and associate with his alma mater.

Pryor was given a notice by Buckeyes’ athletic director Gene Smith on July 26, 2011 saying the school could not associate with the former quarterback. Pryor was a part of a group of players that violated NCAA rules and later cost the school a postseason appearance in 2012.

Since the ban was put in, Pryor has not been able to return to the Columbus campus to do things such as watch Ohio State football games and practice in the Buckeyes’ facilities during the NFL offseason.

Pryor was able to return to Ohio Stadium in 2015. As a member of the Cleveland Browns, Pryor joined the team as it held a scrimmage in the home of the Buckeyes. The scrimmage was a loophole of sorts for Pryor, and he was able to be in his old stadium and sign autographs for fans following the game.

The ban was brought up to Smith during Tuesday’s Big Ten Media Days session. He was unaware that Pryor’s ban was up today but had nothing but positive things to say about Pryor.

“He’s like all of us, we’re the total sum of our experiences in life,” Smith said. “He’s a different person, as am I. We’d welcome him back and do everything we can to help him pursue his dream.”

Pryor has not acknowledged the ban’s ending as of yet. He told Cleveland.com in 2014, however, that he would like to work at regaining his credibility with the school.

“I’d love to, if I’m invited or accepted, I’d love to,” Pryor said. “I don’t want to cause any type of thing. I just want everything to be smooth. Even if I could talk to the guys about not taking things and being smart about the people you deal with, I’d love to do that one day, if the coaches are up to it or the head people at Ohio State are up to it. But that’s a couple years away.”

Pryor will surely be back in Ohio Stadium when the Browns host another scrimmage in the Horseshoe on Aug. 6.
