Last year, the Citadel beat South Carolina 23-22. Even though the Gamecocks had an absolutely terrible season in which Steve Spurrier resigned (and was made worse by hiring Will Muschamp), whenever a FCS team beats a power-five team, the world takes notice. Certainly the Gamecocks want to forget that day, but the Citadel won’t.
The SEC Network is giving each of the 14 schools in the conference a day showing some great highlights from past year’s, and South Carolina’s social media team jumped on the opportunity to celebrate themselves a bit:
All day next Friday we're taking over @SECNetwork so mark your calendars and set your DVRs!! #SpursUp #Gamecocks pic.twitter.com/PXQE2XDXoN

Not a bad list. But the Citadel’s social media staff, keen eyes that they have, responded in kind.

Ah, nothing like some good old social media trolling. 2016 in a nutshell on the internet. That’s a lot of salt they just poured into some still fresh wounds in Columbia. But, South Carolina responded in the best way they could.

Good try, good effort guys. You still lost to a FCS team, and that won’t ever go away no matter how much social media savvy you have.
