It’s become a Saturday tradition for college football fans.

Turn on the TV or open up Twitter and see the debates about team x’s uniforms. Fans from across the country spend time in person and on Twitter arguing over whether they like some team’s latest uniforms. It has gone so far that someone has even created a Twitter account devoted to the Oregon Ducks’ eye-popping uniforms.

In the midst of the uniform madness, Mike Nowoswiat from Pick Six Previews decided to look into the impact of college football teams’ uniforms on recruiting. Nowoswiat talked to 100 high school sophomore and junior recruits about what role a team’s uniforms plays in the recruiting process.

When recruits were asked whether their perception of a team was impacted by uniforms, only 11 of the 100 recruits asked denied that to be true. Meanwhile, 72 of the 100 recruits surveyed agreed with the fact that a team’s jerseys played a role.

The recruits were also asked to name their favorite brands and which teams had the best and worst uniforms. Nike was the best brand, picking up 69 percent of the vote. Reebok, meanwhile, did not earn a single vote.

When it came to the best uniforms, some of the most outrageous uniforms in college football were named the best. Oregon came in first, followed by Baylor, TCU and Maryland, who was in the top five for the best and worst uniform. On the worst uniform side, Alabama and Penn State — two schools who have mostly avoided the alternate jersey craze — were ranked as the first and second worst uniforms in college football.

With Oregon and Baylor picking up top recruits with its strong branding, it’s no surprise that schools such as UCLA are switching to brands like Under Armour that are more appealing to the younger crowd. However, I’m sure Alabama would much rather show recruits its 16 national championships than a neon-colored uniform.
