Western Michigan walk-on

There seriously can’t be a more perfect marriage of crazy than Western Michigan head coach P.J. Fleck and the man who made Rocky famous — actor Sylvester Stalone. Let’s just say the energy level of these two is off the charts at times.

Neither are afraid to take on interesting roles or go against the grain, and that was on full display in what has to be the most elaborate set up in walk-on getting awarded a scholarship history.

Fleck started it all off by dressing in full pads and helmet and challenging one person on the team to stop him in a one-on-one goal line drill. He got to pick his opponent, who just so happened to be walk-on Kasey Carson.

What ensued is about as awesome as it comes:

After Fleck was done getting stuffed at the goal line (and he really did try to get across it so he could have night meetings with his team), he called out Carson for his effort and then awarded him a scholarship via video from Rocky himself.

Lest you believe this was a one-off, Fleck also awarded a full ride scholarship to a walk-on receiver last year via a recovered onside kick with his scholarship papers wrapped around the football.

Now, what will Fleck do to top those moments? We’re guessing it will be something looked at all this upcoming offseason.
