Album: The Band- Live at the Academy Of Music (1971)

the band live

This recently unearthed five disc collection from The Band is a behemoth, but it’s a sweet one. Parts of the recordings were released for the group’s “Rock of Ages” live album back in 1972. It’s got the standard Band catalogue like “Up on Cripple Creek” and “The Weight”, but it also has a new few gems like a version of “Like a Rolling Stone” by Bob Dylan.

The best thing about this collection is that is sounds amazing. The songs were re-mastered in 5.1 surround. (I have no idea what that means, but it sounds cool.)

This collection is like a glass of Glenfiddich 12-year scotch. It’s smooth, makes you feel great, and gives people the impression that you have great taste. Throw it on at your next dinner party.

Favorite Track: Don’t Do ItLevon Helm’s vocals slices through the music like a razor blade.
