Whether you remember him from the Kentucky Wildcats or the New York Giants or even the Northern Kentucky River Monsters, chances are you remember Jared Lorenzen.

Remembered far more for his size than for his stats, the “Hefty Lefty” racked up over 10,000 yards at Kentucky and won a Super Bowl ring with the Giants (as a back-up, but, it’s still one more Super Bowl ring than you have). He did all of this while checking in at over 300 pounds, a weight way higher than almost any other quarterback in the game. After his NFL career fizzled out, Lorenzen found success in the Ultimate Indoor Football League as a player and eventually commissioner.

While he might be done battling linebackers, Lorenzen’s battle with his own weight is something he continues to struggle with. Perhaps in an attempt to stay motivated and to share his journey with others, he’s started The Jared Lorenzen Project, an ongoing video series in which he’ll attempt to lose weight with the help of trainers and nutritionists. To show how perilous his weight issues have gotten, Lorenzen revealed in the first video that he is now over 500 pounds.

Lorenzen also took to Twitter to thanks his supporters as he attempts to take control of his weight and get back to health.

Jared says he doesn’t have a target weight in mind that he wants to reach, but he hopes to not only lose weight but also inspire children as he does it.
