Jay Cutler might not be against moving on from the Chicago Bears organization.
The embattled quarterback is reportedly “not terribly worried” about Brian Hoyer becoming the Bears starter for the rest of the season because it may lead to him and the Bears parting ways, according to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report.
“A source close to Cutler indicated even if he doesn’t get his job back, a divorce from the Bears may not be the worst outcome,” Cole said Wednesday. “Cutler would like to stay in Chicago but is open to the idea of playing elsewhere for the remainder of his career.”
Cutler hasn’t lived up to expectations in Chicago since joining the team in 2010. With a fourth straight season at .500 or under inevitable, moving on might be the best course of action for Cutler and the Bears. The city has seemingly soured on the 33-year-old, and vice versa.
Old teammates have called out Cutler’s mentality and ability and staff members have reportedly “fallen out of favor” with him. With Hoyer playing at a similar level Cutler did while he’s sat with injury and his reputation plummeting, Cutler looks more and more likely to be cut instead of being a highly priced backup.
There’s little question Cutler is still a starting NFL quarterback, but his future at the position does not look like it’s with the Bears.
