For most of this offseason, it looked like Jimmy Garoppolo would no longer be with the San Francisco 49ers. The team initially tried to trade the former Super Bowl starter but ultimately decided to keep him with the team on a restructured contract as the backup to second-year quarterback Trey Lance. And it’s a good thing they did because following Lance’s devastating season-ending injury, Garoppolo was there to save San Francisco’s season.

With Jimmy Garoppolo at the helm in San Francisco, the Niners are in first place in the NFC West and are coming off a massive win over the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night. After the game, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan took some time to praise Garoppolo for what he’s meant for the team this year.

“Jimmy’s doing a great job,” Shanahan said according to Pro Football Talk. “Jimmy always has. When Jimmy’s been healthy out there, we’ve had our guys around him, he plays at a high level, and I think he did that today as good as he has. We’re very fortunate to have him.”

Garoppolo could lead the team to the postseason in the next couple of months, which is wild considering he was very nearly playing for the Washington Commanders this season, instead.
