On March 15th, 2016 the Washington Redskins re-signed outside linebacker Junior Galette to a one-year deal less than a year after he missed the entire 2015 season for a torn Achilles. Just over four months after the ink dried on his new deal, Galette suffered a season-ending injury for the second straight year – and it’s not an injury Galette is unfamiliar with.

That’s a brutal blow for the Redskins. Two years in a row, Washington has signed outside linebacker Junior Galette to a one-year deal. Two years in a row, the linebacker suffers a torn Achilles and is out for the season. Talk about bad luck.

Last year, it was his left Achilles, this year it’s his right. Galette’s latest injury came while he was working out according to various reports. If that’s the case, Washington could decide to place him on the non-football injury list, and avoid having to pay his base salary of $1 million this season.

Galette has been hinting at the injury today on his Twitter in multiple tweets.

Galette was not drafted in the 2010 NFL Draft after playing at Stillman College, and signed as a free agent with the New Orleans Saints. The linebacker played with the Saints from 2010 until he was released on July 24th, 2015.

Exactly a year later, Galette suffered his second Achilles tear in as many years.

The Redskins reportedly were going to hold Galette back until training camp after last year’s injury. However, General Manager Scot McCloughan was impressed by Galette’s return and decided he was ahead of schedule.

That’s clearly out the window now, and the Redskins will have to go in another direction.
