The Los Angeles Chargers have a pretty unusual and rather amusing predicament on their hands. After moving to Los Angeles from San Diego, the Chargers announced they would be moving into StubHub Center in Carson until their new home is complete.

But despite playing in a stadium that’s sponsored by the well known secondary ticket reseller, the Chargers do not want their fans using StubHub to sell Chargers tickets.

Because the Chargers are moving into a 30,000 seat soccer stadium, the Chargers are afraid that because demand for tickets would be insanely high, season ticket holders would sell their tickets at higher prices that may or may not go to Chargers fans. That would then cause the team to lose their home field advantage in a stadium that is only 30,000 capacity.

I hope you could tell how dumb this idea is by now but just in case, StubHub isn’t the only way for people to sell their tickets. There are no Chargers tickets on other secondary ticket reseller sites but that isn’t going to stop someone if they really want to sell their tickets. They can go to one of the lesser known secondary ticket reseller sites. The Chargers have surely not kept tickets away from all sites. They can go to Craigslist or use social media or just do it the old fashioned way and take an ad out in the newspaper. There are other options out there to resell tickets. StubHub isn’t the end all, be all.

All this does is create a story about a situation that quite frankly, the Chargers cannot keep from happening. All it does is make the team look dumb, make the stadium sponsor that is housing you look bad and make it more risky for fans to be able to sell their tickets. Way I see it, if these people are willing to be price gouged and pay thousands for their season tickets, they should be able to resell them if they are able to make a few bucks. That’s capitalism 101.
