Mike Glennon is not playing well. That shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, of course; he’s Mike Glennon. He’s a mid-level backup talent being paid like a starter for this season because someone with the Bears fell in love with…uh…intangibles, maybe? Certainly not mobility or ball placement or decision-making.

On Thursday night’s national broadcast against Green Bay, all his flaws were laid bare, as Glennon essentially committed four turnovers on his own; his TD to turnover ratio for the season is a sparkling 4:8.

Here are a few highlights:

Glennon has been given every single opportunity to play well this season, having faltered in training camp, the preseason, and now the regular season. The Bears have opened up 1-3 despite having no semblance of a passing threat; their only win, an overtime victory over Pittsburgh in Week 3, came despite Glennon passing for just 101 yards.

With the NFC being somewhat open this year, that’s even more disappointing; the defense is playing well but is not young, and the running game features two young potential stars in Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen, but they’re not going to be fully unlocked unless there’s even a chance that the Bears can pass the ball. It’s year 3 of the Ryan Pace/John Fox rebuilding project, and for the first time this season, John Fox was noncommittal about Glennon starting next Monday night.

And now, there’s at least one reporter willing to say that he’s hearing the Bears are going to pull the trigger on benching Glennon:

Allbright is a Denver radio host, and has worked for CBS Sports Radio as well. Is he a rock-solid national newsbreaker like Adam Schefter? No, he’s not, but that certainly doesn’t disqualify his reporting. It’s also worth noting that John Fox was the Denver Broncos coach before moving on to Chicago. That a Denver radio host would have this insight is not impossible.

Plus, hey, there’s some common sense here. Bears fans have certainly seen enough of Glennon. It stands to reason that most of the Bears organization has too. But, it is John Fox, stubborn even by football coach standards, so who knows.
