Martellus Bennett has built an entire personal brand out of his willingness to say just about anything, at any time, to anyone.

When Bennett joined the Patriots this offseason, it was perhaps fair to wonder if he’d fall in line with the New England dogma that seemingly forces players to avoid creating a distraction at all costs, even if that means eliminating the possibility for entertaining press conferences. (Remember, this is a team that punished Wes Welker for his foot-related monologue.)

Bennett allayed those fears earlier in the offseason when he torched Jay Cutler in an interview. And on Sunday, Martellus demonstrated that those fears were unfounded. He was asked his thoughts on playing for a winning, contending team, having endured some losing seasons with the floundering Bears.

Bennett did not disappoint:

“It’s cool. I’m kind of getting used to winning now, you know what I’m saying?” Bennett told reporters. “At first, it’s like ‘Yeah!’ It’s like the first time having sex. And then your second time and the your third time, it’s like ‘Oh yeah, it’s pretty cool. I’m getting better at it.’ It’s really fun.”

That’s a heck of a metaphor. But then, Martellus Bennett is a published author, after all, so we should be expect that sort of thing. Of course, his book was a children’s book:

So, maybe this isn’t the most on-brand message after all. Regardless, it’s hard to blame any veteran player for expressing excitement upon being traded to the Patriots.

As Martellus notes, it’s a great climax to any career.
