Every year, EA Sports and the Madden franchise unveil a new and improved game with brand new shiny game modes, controls, graphics and much more.

Well the newest Madden NFL 2018 is slated to come out on August 25th and it looks even better than the 2017 edition as expected.

So let’s go over some of the new additions that EA Sports unveils in this video:

1. Target Passing – In the short clips shown in the video, this concept looks pretty cool. Granted, some of the “coolness” of this feature is aided by Tom Brady, but still. What this does is it would conceivably make multiplayer games more fun. If you’re playing with a friend who was playing as a wide receiver, they would know to not only run their route, but also to their target to have a better catch probability.

2. New coach adjustments – Realistically, this doesn’t mean much. To me what it does is it gives you more control to have a more diverse playbook, thus making it easier for you to defend or go on offense against different styles. In a way it’s just the game updating it self to reflect modern day football, which is really the point of these updates.

3. New WR and DB mechanics – I like how this impacts the defensive backs. Based on what the video shows, if you’re on defense and playing a DB, it lets you press various buttons to determine how aggressively you want to defend the pass.

You can see the “aggressive” there in the video screenshot. The only question is does “aggressive” apply to both the wide receiver being aggressive trying to catch AND the DB trying to defend? If so I like that update rather than just a generic computer generated approach to a catch/pass deflection.

4. New blocking and tackling – The blocking part doesn’t matter as much because honestly how often do you play as a lineman? As for the tackling, there have been times when tackles have completely missed or fallen through for seemingly no reason. If this updates that defect and makes the tackles more realistic, count me in.

5. Three new play styles: Arcade, Simulation, and Competitive – The trailer doesn’t go into this much, but it’s not surprising to see. Typically a new year will bring a new game with new game modes, hence the addition of these three new game “styles.”

Once again EA Sports’ Madden NFL 2018 is available starting August 25th.
