Now that San Diego sadly has only one professional sports team, there’s certainly void in that city. But for those that remain there — soaking up the beautiful city instead of looking for further riches up north where no one wants you — there’s a rally to “Celebrate San Diego”.

But the real story from that day-long celebration of San Diego includes the news that the Padres are offering $25 of credit to the team store if you trade in a piece of Chargers gear in good condition:

“Those who would like to donate their Chargers apparel in good condition will be able to exchange one piece of Chargers clothing or a Chargers hat for a $25 credit to the Padres Majestic Team Store good through May 4, 2017.This offer is good for one (1) Chargers item exchanged for one (1) store credit per adult (ages 18 and older). Multiple exchange locations will be open in the Park at the Park, but guests are encouraged to line up early to minimize wait times. The Padres will distribute donated clothing items to charitable partners that support our neighbors in need.”

And the best part of that little blurb is not the discount you’ll get on Wil Myers gear, but that the Chargers apparel donated will be going to a good cause while you flip the proverbial bird in Dean Spanos’ face. But the fun doesn’t stop there, because there will be some amazing luminaries at the “Celebrate San Diego Rally” including former Chargers center Nick Hardwick, Padres manager Andy Green, team legends Trevor Hoffman and Randy Jones, plus an appearance from former Wheel of Fortune host Rolf Benirschke (who was also apparently a Chargers kicker)!

The event will be held Feb. 11 at Petco Park, and everyone in attendance gets a free Celebrate San Diego hat, too. The hats should have said “Stay Classy San Diego”, but the effect works with either saying.

Feb. 11 will be a great day to celebrate a great city, and annoy someone who didn’t think the city was quite good enough. Works for me.
