Nick Foles of the Cincinnati Bengals of the St. Louis Rams at Paul Brown Stadium on November 29, 2015 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Nick Foles never figured to be in the plans of the LA Rams after last season, and especially after they traded a king’s ransom to draft Jared Goff with the #1 overall pick. Now, Foles has been cut by the Rams on the eve of training camp.

Jeff Fisher said the usual things a coach says when a once-touted player is cut.

“We have been in contact with Nick and his representation throughout the offseason and we feel that this is the best decision for all parties involved,” Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher said. “We appreciate the contributions that Nick has made to our organization in his time as a Ram and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Foles did not report to the team’s voluntary mini-camp back in the spring, and trade efforts ultimately fell flat. He only played one season for the Rams after being traded to the team last season from Philadelphia in exchange for Sam Bradford.

Last season, he started 11 games for the Rams and threw for a shade over 2,000 yards, with seven TDs and 10 INTs on his resume. He went 4-7 as a starter, and has struggled to regain his Pro Bowl form from the 2013 season.

The Rams will enter training camp with Goff, Sean Mannion and Case Keenum as the three QB’s on their depth chart. Foles is now looking for his third team, and do not be surprised to see his name linked with the Jets, who have still failed to agree on a contract with Ryan Fitzpatrick for this season.
