The Pittsburgh Steelers had a surprise guest announce their first-round pick of the 2018 NFL Draft on Thursday night, in what immediately became one of the most emotional moments in draft history.
Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier walked onto the stage at AT&T Stadium to announce Pittsburgh’s selection of Virginia Tech safety Terrell Edmunds with the 28th overall pick.

The inspirational moment comes less than five months after Shazier suffered a devastating spinal injury that required spinal stabilization surgery. As Thursday night’s moment shows, Shazier has clearly made amazing progress in his recovery.
