Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow’s failure to make it in the NFL was not solely on his inability to excel at the quarterback position. It was his reluctance to accept changing posiitons in the league.

Tebow said during an interview with Dan Patrick on Thursday he was presented with opportunities to switch positions, but he refused to do so.

“For me it’s always about pursuing what’s in your heart, what you love, what you’re passionate about, and I love the game of football but what I really love doing is playing the quarterback position,” Tebow said. “I’ve had a lot of good opportunities to play another position but that just wasn’t in my heart. It wasn’t something I wanted to do. If I was going to make a change I’d rather make a change to baseball.”

Few people in the NFL felt Tebow was destined to thrive as a quarterback in the NFL. Some thought he was more suited to use his frame at the tight end position or perhaps even as a short-yardage running back. But Tebow wanted to play quarterback, despite multiple stops in the league without catching on at the position even though he completed one miracle pass that somehow resulted in an overtime playoff victory that one time.

To his credit, Tebow found the ability to laugh about his NFL misfortune, jokingly saying things did not work out for him with Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles at his last stop in the NFL.

Tebow is now pursuing a career in baseball, a sport he has not played since high school. The New York Mets took a bite and signed him to a minor league contract. I honestly don’t know what position Tebow has his heart set on playing in baseball, but you have to wonder if he might be more open to a possible position change before he is left to shift his professional sports career to basketball or soccer or something else.
