Some football players will do anything and everything they can to make it to the NFL. Despite not playing college football, Rashaun Sligh is camping outside the Philadelphia Eagles football building just hoping to receive an invite to come in and workout for the team. It’s a long shot, but he now has the support of a man who once shared the same vision and goal: Vince Papale.

As you probably recall from the Disney film Invincible, which was based on his life story, you know Papale has a unique perspective and appreciation for what it takes to make it to the league. While the story may be relatively well-known because of the Disney film, not everybody is entirely sure exactly who the real Papale is. Sligh is among those who would not have been able to pick Papale out of a lineup until recently. That’s because Sligh’s sitting outside the Eagles facility is gaining popularity and has caught the eye of Papale.

He didn’t know who I was at first,” Papale said CSNPhilly.com of his first encounter with the aspiring football player. “I said, ‘I know where you’re coming from, I’m Vince Papale.’ He almost passed out he was so appreciative. I liked his reaction right from the beginning. He’s got a great attitude.”

After turning down an invite to join Papale for lunch because he didn’t want to miss a possible opportunity to speak to Eagles coaches, Sligh was sent a cheesesteak from Chickie’s and Pete’s by Papale, with a side of Crabfries.

The odds are probably never going to be in Sligh’s favor, but he is certainly becoming a story to root for. And with Papale to count on for advice, then here’s hoping Sligh can at least get a chance to workout for the Eagles even if just out of courtesy, if not curiosity.
