“You’re back on the force, Bobrovsky!”

Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky may have made the best save of the 2017-18 season when he robbed the Detroit Red Wings in overtime on Saturday. With the two teams tied after 60 minutes, both Bobrovsky and Detroit’s Jimmy Howard made some outrageous saves, but none of them compared to what Bobrovsky did when the Red Wings had a 2-on-0 rush in the extra period.

Watch as Bobrovsky barely gets a toe on the puck to keep the Blue Jackets alive.

That is a bonkers save. Anthony Mantha and Andreas Athanasiou set things up pretty perfectly, making the most of a rare 2-on-0 opportunity. Their passing should have resulted in a decisive goal, but Bobrovsky’s toe had other things in mind.

It’s easy to pick apart the Red Wings for not elevating the puck, but how often do you see a goaltender play a rush this well? Instead of an easy goal, Bobrovsky maintained his positioning as best as he could and still managed to get in the way.

As if that wasn’t enough, Bobrovsky was awesome in the shootout too. The two teams battled in a lengthy shootout that lasted nine rounds, ending with the Blue Jackets on top. That only seems fitting considering Bob’s awesome overtime save.
