The Washington Capitals fired back after a friendly nudge on Twitter by the rival Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Penguins were feeling extra snarky ahead of their matchup against Washington on Wednesday, tweeting out a photo of their Stanley Cup banner next to the Capitals’ most recent Metro Division Champions banner. Pittsburgh was alluding to the Capitals dominating the regular season but coming short in the playoffs against the Penguins, which isn’t exactly a new thing for Washington.

The Capitals wasted little time on defense, tweeting out a new banner, which stated “Washington D.C.: Not Pittsburgh; 1748-forever.”

Despite Penguins fans flooding the Capitals Twitter page, telling them they took ‘the L’, the Capitals gave Pittsburgh a solid burn with the tweet.
We’ll see if Pittsburgh responds. Considering what’s recently gone down in the nation’s capital, the organization should have plenty of ammunition to throw at the Capitals should they choose to go down the political route. Either way, getcha’ popcorn ready – hopefully, this Twitter beef continues on throughout the day.
