The Florida Panthers held a Kevin Spacey “Spacey in Space” night on Saturday, based on their budding relationship with the actor, and it seemed like a huge success.

Florida ending up losing 5-3 to the Detroit Red Wings, but Panthers fans went nuts when Spacey — who donned a ‘Spacey in Space’ sweater and a ‘Spacey facey’ — appeared on the jumbotron, giving the House of Cards actor a standing ovation.

In an Instagram post, Spacey said he had a “wonderful welcome” night, and posed with the team after the game.

Thank you @flapanthers and all the fans for such a wonderful welcome tonight

Florida fans were excited to see their Atlantic Division-leading Panthers and Spacey in the same building, as a regular-season franchise record 20,817 fans showed up to watch the game.

Florida experienced a horrific year attendance-wise in 2014-15, finishing with a franchise-low 11,271 average attendance, including a franchise-record low 7,311 fans in an October game against the Los Angeles Kings. Those days of low attendance seem to be over, as Florida has bounced back with an excellent on-ice product and establishing themselves as Stanley Cup contenders.

The Panthers have been excellent this year, and the ‘Spacey in Space‘ sweater, and Spacey himself, may be the luck charm behind all of it.
