When the Minnesota Wild took on the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of the first round of the NHL playoffs just days after Prince’s death, the team decided to honor the Minnesotan by changing its goal song to “Let’s Go Crazy.” The song change will now be permanent.

The team announced in a video Tuesday that “Let’s Go Crazy” will now be played after every Wild goal at home this season. The change comes after the team put the goal song choice up for debate among season ticket holders.

Prior to the Game 6 matchup, speculation begin to surface regarding how the team would honor Prince, who had recently died and had strong connections to Minnesota. The Wild ended up honoring Prince in a number of ways, including a pregame ceremony and playing “Let’s Go Crazy.”

Though the move to the Prince hit was supposed to be temporary, a number of fans reached out to the team. This caused the team to send out a survey asking if the team should change its goal song to “Let’s Go Crazy.” Previously, the team used the song “Crowd Chant” by Joe Satriani.

According to the team, “Let’s Go Crazy” won the vote by an almost two-to-one margin.

The move seems to be a positive one for Minnesota, and it seems hardly surprising. Natives of the state have an overwhelming amount of love for the late rockstar. This song has a chance to bring out a little more state pride among fans. “Let’s Go Crazy” is also a major upgrade from the nondescript, jock jam-like “Crowd Chant.”
