Archer just wrapped up its seventh (and some believe final) season, and with ratings dipping, the creators of the FX show are looking towards the future of the franchise. Will there be another season? What about a movie?
Whatever happens, show producers already have a clue as to whom they would like to play Archer should they go all sorts of live-action on the movie front. Naturally, Archer is a dead-wringer for Jon Hamm, the former star of the hit AMC TV show Mad Men.
“It’s Jon Hamm,” show producer Matt Thompson said. “If Archer goes live-action, I do believe it will be Jon Hamm.”
That should have been an easy call, as the dapper Don Draper and the dapper Sterling Archer have plenty in common in the looks department. So much so, there is even a tumblr putting together Mad Men scenes and quotes from Archer.
At least his body would be in use…as the producers face the dilemma of pairing Archer’s iconic voice-over from H. Jon Benjamin with an actual actor on the big screen. One solution the producers have talked about is using Jon Hamm as the body actor and voicing over him with H. Jon Benjamin.
Think it is all a bit too far fetched? Hamm has already appeared on the show, playing the voice of a deranged sea base captain in the season four finale.
Thompson isn’t alone in this thinking, as his fellow producer, Adam Reed, has previously hinted at all of this happening…even dubbing the idea “H. Jon Hamm Benjamin.”
Of course, all of this is still theory and such, but the loyal fanbase that has stuck around for all seven seasons know better than to doubt that this crew would push the boundaries a step or two beyond the limit.
After all, that is what the show is all about, right?
