Assassin's Creed

The ‘Leap of Faith’ is now very, very real.

In the popular Assassin’s Creed video game series, the ‘Leap of Faith’ jump has become one of the most iconic in-game visuals. To see your character jump off of church steeples from death-defying heights into a bale of hay feels rewarding. However, its realism was thought to be questionable at best-  until now.

The Assassin’s Creed crew wanted to recreate the jump for the film version of the franchise. Without using a CGI model or camera tricks, director Justin Kurzel set up the stunt jump from a crane. Damien Waters, the stunt double for lead Michael Fassbender, tested out the jump by doing smaller 70-f00t and 90-foot drops. After a small bit of whiplash, Waters made the real jump from 125 feet. If you’re queasy about heights, the video is hard to watch.

It’s hard to throw support behind video game movies, considering almost 100% of them have been trash. But the Assassin’s Creed film, from the brief glimpses we’ve seen, looks stellar. Kurzel, known for his critically acclaimed adaptation of Macbeth, is going all out in bringing incredible video game visuals to life. Fans of the countless number of Assassin’s Creed games should be happy, as the film seems to be in good hands.

I can’t wait to see how the ‘Leap of Faith’ comes off in Assassin’s Creed, as the behind the scenes look was exhilarating itself.

Assassin’s Creed is set for release December 21, 2016.
