Carrie Coon

Fargo season three is shaping up quite nicely.

Few details are known about the upcoming FX series, aside from it will be set close to present day and Ewan McGregor will be playing two different brothers in a dual role. Now, another cast member has been revealed. Michael Ausiello of TVLine reports The Leftovers star Carrie Coon has been cast as the female lead in Fargo season three.

This is stellar news for a number of reasons. Coon is an incredible dramatic actor who’s among the best on TV at the moment. Her performance as Nora Durst is spellbinding. Fargo is no stranger to adding big name actors, but Coon is hitting the stride of her career at the moment and to be on both The Leftovers and Fargo is telling of her talents. I can easily imagine her with a Minnesotan accent. I can’t wait to see how McGregor and Coon interact with each other in the snowy, small-town setting.

This is basically best case scenario casting for the show and a good sign the folks at FX are continuing to make the right choices. It’s impossible to doubt them at this point. Even when creator Noah Hawley cast Kirsten Dunst in a lead role last season, it raised a few eyebrows, but it turned out to be the pitch perfect choice.

If you’re taking early Emmy nomination bets, Coon is a good candidate to be nominated. She’s never received the honor for work on The Leftovers (which is absurd), but appearing on a more well-known show that’s been known to get nominations in bunches will certainly help.

Fargo season three won’t air until 2017, but considering the talented roster being assembled, it will surely be worth the wait.
