Voldemort himself, Donald Trump Presumptive Republican nominee for US president Donald Trump, arrives at Trump International Golf Links on June 25, 2016 in Aberdeen, Scotland. The US presidential hopeful was in Scotland for the reopening of the refurbished Open venue golf resort Trump Turnberry which has undergone an eight month refurbishment as part of an investment thought to be worth in the region of two hundred million pounds.

Some of us have already made this comparison in our heads, and now Harry Potter himself is doing it too, so it must be true, right? Right?

Well, last year JK Rowling posted a tweet saying that the Lord of Darkness himself was “nowhere near as bad” as Trump, and now Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter movies, has jumped in on the conversation by adding the comparison is “certainly not without its merits”.

“I sort of think Donald Trump might not be as ideologically pure as Voldemort,” he said.

“My thinking on Trump is that he feels like more of an opportunist – I don’t know know how much of this stuff he’s saying he actually really, really believes.”

“He hides behind the sort of thing of, ‘Oh I’m just an entertainer’… that comparison is certainly not without its merits.”

Radcliffe said this while speaking to the media at the Empire Magazine film Festival Empire Live at London’s O2 Arena to promote his new film, Imperium.

It doesn’t really matter what Radcliffe does in his future career, because most everyone will think of him as Harry Potter anyway, so his thoughts on a comparison between one of the most evil characters in literary history and Donald Trump are certainly merited.
