Game of Thrones is adding yet another musician in a cameo role.

Entertainment Weekly reports British songwriter and musician Ed Sheeran, best known for singing multiple annoyingly catchy songs that won’t escape your head, will cameo in the show’s upcoming eighth season.

Sheeran joins a lengthy list of musicians who’ve appeared on the HBO juggernaut. Mastodon, Sigur Ros, Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol), Of Monsters and Men and Will Champion (Coldplay). Non-musicians, such as New York Mets star Noah Syndergaard, will join Sheeran in cameoing in season eight.

What’s excellent about Thrones’ cameos, is they’re discrete enough that they don’t take you out of the show. Often, they’re dressed up as background characters. It’s neat but not distracting. So, I’m on board.

Plus, the cameo is for good reason. Entertainment Weekly adds Sheeran’s cameo was a surprise to star Maisie Williams, who’s reportedly a big fan of the British crooner. Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss tried to get him “for years” before booking the role for the upcoming season.

As cool as the cameo is, the duo warned it’s not all glitz and glamor.

“A lot of [music artists] say they would they would like to [be on the show], and then we tell them [shooting a scene] is so boring,” Weiss told fans. “‘You’re gonna hate this — you’re going to be sitting around three days for 12 hours a day.’”

Will Sheeran sing, or, even have a single line? That remains to be seen. But, I’d bet his cameo is centered around Williams.

Unfortunately, both fans of Sheeran and Game of Thrones will have to wait until at least July 16 (the show’s premiere) to see him in Westeros.
