On Inauguration Day, House of Cards and Netflix revealed the season 5 launch date of their political hit. This upcoming season which features Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright is set to premiere May 30, the day after Memorial Day.

As you can see, with the quote “We make the terror,” along with the dour tone of the Pledge of Allegiance and the American flag flying upside down signaling dire distress, this is going to be an even darker season of House of Cards. If that was even possible.

This upcoming season of House of Cards will be the first without creator and showrunner Beau Willimon, who used to work on Democrats’ Chuck Schumer, Hillary Clinton and Howard Dean campaigns in the early 2000’s. Willimon left the show and has now started a website meant to organize action groups for various issues concerning the country.

With Willimon’s departure and the sudden shift in the political climate since season 4 aired last March, this new season could go in just about any direction. A lot has changed in real life and may have explained for the slightly longer than usual hiatus, but we should expect the unapologetically dirty and unsanitized side of politics that really goes on behind-the-scenes that we the people don’t always see.
