If there’s anything we love at the movies more than superheroes these days, it might be super-spies. A jet-setting, globe-hopping life of international intrigue and adventure is a fantasy in which so many of us would love to indulge. Outfitted in the finest suits, driving tricked-out luxury cars and utilizing an arsenal of the most innovative technology and deadliest weapons is a dream the movies regularly bring to life.

But other than the James Bond and Mission: Impossible franchises, spy thrillers and action films have been kind of lacking in recent years. While Ethan Hunt and his Impossible Mission Forces are still going strong, even 007 had a miss with 2015’s Spectre. Any thought of Jason Bourne providing a jolt to spy films was dashed with last summer’s disappointing Jason Bourne.

However, the successful spy blockbusters still lack the sense of fun that infused the early Bond movies. And Hollywood has been trying to recapture that. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. had Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander with the style of Guy Ritchie, but was largely ignored in 2015. But director Matthew Vaughn may have found a secret agent hit with 2015’s Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Vaughn made no secret of his love for the campy fun and cheeky sexuality of 1960s and 70s Bond films and may have started a new franchise with a movie that earned $400 million worldwide. (I liked, but didn’t love it.) So it shouldn’t be any surprise that we’re getting a Kingsman sequel, despite some surprising developments in the first film that may have put such an idea in doubt. Here’s the first trailer for Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

If you saw the first Kingsman movie, that was a bit of a surprise at the very end of this new trailer. OK, maybe not a big surprise, considering the actor involved. But it definitely adds some intrigue to this story. Eggsy is back, now a full-fledged agent, and some big co-stars like Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and Halle Berry are joining him. Blowing up the Kingsman’s headquarters and taking Eggsy’s support system away definitely adds some compelling drama. What’s left of the team then has to team up with Statesman, the American version of the spy organization.

Borrowing elements from Men in Black and his own X-Men: First Class, Vaughn provided the origin story of a street kid (Taron Egerton) recruited and mentored by a veteran British spy (Colin Firth) into a training program of young agents. Vaughn made no secret of his love for the campy fun of 1960s and 70s Bond films and may have started a new franchise with a movie that earned $400 million worldwide. (I liked, but didn’t love it.)

One thing this Kingsman sequel may miss is an over-the-top villain, which Samuel L. Jackson provided so well with his Russell Simmons parody. But Julianne Moore may be an entirely different, more chilling bad guy who can portray another kind of megalomanical crazy than Jackson’s Richmond Valentine. Also, based on this trailer, it looks like Eggsy will face plenty of adversaries along the way, such as the dude with the mechanical arm and the whip-wielding cowboy.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits theaters on Sept. 22.
