A major political scandal. A FBI-related investigation. The possibility that the President of the United States was involved in something illegal. A national media frenzy surrounding both of them.

Sound familiar?

Of course, we’re referring to the Watergate Scandal (what were you thinking of?). At the center of that investigation was a person whose code name was Deep Throat. This high-ranking person was secretly tipping off Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein with information that helped them inform the public about President Richard Nixon’s involvement in the Watergate break-in, which led to his resignation and all the fallout therein.

For years, people wondered who Deep Throat was. It wasn’t until 2005 that William Mark Felt, Sr., deputy director of the FBI at the time, admitted he was the infamous whistleblower. While Nixon, Woodward, Bernstein, and many political officials had already been public figures of note because of their involvement in the scandal, now people wanted to know more about who Felt was and why he did what he did. They’ll get their best chance yet to learn about the man when the wordily-named film “Mark Felt – The Man Who Brought Down the White House” hits theaters later this year.

The first full trailer for the movie, starring Liam Neeson as the titular character, was released on Tuesday.

The disturbingly relevant film also features an all-star cast that includes Diane Lane as Felt’s wife, Tony Goldwyn as FBI intel chief Ed Miller, Josh Lucas as FBI agent Charlie Bates, and Dexter’s Michael C. Hall as John Dean, architect of the Watergate cover-up. Bruce Greenwood, Kate Walsh, Ike Barinholtz, Colm Meaney, Eddie Marsan, and Tom Sizemore also round out the cast.

Mark Felt is set to debut in theaters on September 29, 2017.
