The year 2016 delivered another blow in its last week as the world lost yet another luminary. Pop singer and icon George Michael tragically passed away at the age of 53 on Christmas Day. While tributes have been pouring in to Michael over the last 24 hours, the one at Manchester United may have been the most unique.

The Premier League was in action all over England with a traditionally packed list of Boxing Day fixtures. And the crowd at Manchester United’s Old Trafford paid tribute to the British singer by singing his Wham! hit “Last Christmas,” which regardless of the time of year may be Michael’s most popular song.

Have a listen as you can hear the singing in the background.

While thousands of chanting soccer fans might not be able to hit the same notes or keys as Michael, it still makes for a pretty cool tribute.

It might be ironic that given the song’s staying power, that it never hit #1 on the charts, not even in the UK. Instead, Last Christmas came out in 1984, the same year as Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”

Christmas time or not, it’s just a great song. Stranger things have happened and who knows, maybe Last Christmas could take off as a new anthem for Manchester United. You know Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be all over it.
