After crowdfunding around $6 million, many Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans (including me) have been looking forward to the new episodes.

Some info was revealed including the cast and the fact that Netflix would be distributing the new season. But not much has been revealed in terms of actual footage or what terrible films will be riffed this season.

With about three weeks left until the premiere, Netflix launched the trailer for the show. I have to say, if it’s any indication, the quality has certainly improved from the pre-HD days of MST3K.

You can see the cast in their various roles, including Patton Oswalt as TV’s Son of TV’s Frank, Felicia Day as Kinga Forrester and Jonah Ray as the protagonist Jonah Heston. The bots (except for Gypsy) can also be seen.

The trailer also reveals one of the movies that will be riffed this season. Reptilicus is a 1961 Danish-American monster movie where the entire movie was remade from Danish to English with an all-Danish cast. That seems right up Mystery Science Theater 3000’s wheelhouse.

After some fears that the show would be drastically different than what fans loved in the 80’s and 90’s, it seems like much of the magic from the original show has remained along with some minor updates to keep up with the times. Looks like we’ll be having some fun on the “Satellite of Love” in a few weeks.
