Roseanne Revival

We’ve got another nostalgic television show ready for a revival. According to Deadline, classic 1990’s sitcom Roseanne is set for a new run with its original cast of Roseanne Barr, John Goodman and Sara Gilbert. Tom Werner and Bruce Helford will return as executive producers as well.

As of now, the show is still looking for a home. Reports say Netflix as well as ABC, which aired the show’s original run, are among the potential landing spots.

But don’t get your hopes too high. While it appears the show will return, it will do so only in an eight-episode limited series.

Roseanne‘s original run, which received four Emmys, wrapped up after nine seasons in 1997 with a controversial ending where Roseanne Conner reveals the final season’s arc was a story the character made up to cope with some crappy parts of her life.

Oddly enough, part of this twist was discovering that Goodman’s character, Dan Conner, died of a heart attack. Yet Goodman will be on the new cast, so we’ll see how they handle that. The Deadline report suggests that Dan could reappear after faking his death.

Roseanne will be the latest in a line of classic TV shows getting fresh runs. Netflix has been at the forefront of this with Fuller HouseOne Day at a Time and Gilmore Girls. NBC is also in the process of bringing back Will & Grace for a 12-episode revival.

In March, Barr had already hinted at a Roseanne reunion show. And that got comedian and actor Norm Macdonald, who wrote for Roseanne in 1992 and 1993, interested as well. So far, there’s no word on if Macdonald will actually return on the writing staff.
