That nightmare you always have, happened to passengers on this Southwest flight.

Southwest Flight 3472 from New Orleans to Orlando was diverted after being forced to make an emergency landing as the plane’s engine failed, according to CNN. As you can see above one of the engines was damaged pretty badly to the point the cabin lost air pressure and air masks dropped down as the plane descended for an emergency landing.

Passengers reportedly started screaming (why would they not, right?). One traveler described the incident and it sounds as terrifying as you’d think.

“It was just a big explosion. There was some smoke and then nothing,” she told the Oklahoma City station . “I saw parts flapping in the wind.”

She wasn’t kidding as the explosion blew a hole in the side of the plane.

Thankfully, the plane landed safely as the crew was able to make an emergency landing in Pensacola to the relief of the 99 passengers. Obviously an engine explosion and depressurization of the the cabin has triggered an investigation into what wrong with the Boeing made 737-700.

Personally, my biggest fear is flying. Every ounce of turbulence sends a chill down my spine. I’ve watched the pilot for Lost one too many times. I can’t imagine being on the plane that you think might end up crashing.

Luckily though, the engine failure wasn’t catastrophic. The explosion was dangerous, but thankfully, everything was handled correctly by Southwest staff. Considering an engine exploded, passengers and crew are lucky to walk away from the incident likely with a good story and a new outlook on life.
