Somebody tell Corey Feldman to get ready. The Lost Boys are coming back.

For many movie fans, The Lost Boys was the seminal vampire movie of their generation. The story about two brothers who move to a California beach town and find themselves in the middle of a battle against a gang of vampires became a cult classic thanks to its mixture of comedy and scares, not to mention that it’s cast became a who’s who of recognizable actors (Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, Jami Gertz, The Two Coreys, Edward Herrmann).

For years people talked about a sequel that never materialized (unless you count the direct-to-video sequels, which we won’t). Now comes news that The Lost Boys will finally be rebooted but this time as a TV show for The CW. The very good news is that the writer behind the show is Rob Thomas (No, not THAT Rob Thomas). The Rob Thomas who created Veronica Mars, Party Down, and iZombie, to name a few).

The show will not, however, confine itself to a California beach town. Instead, the premise will take advantage of vampire immortality and span different years and times.

According to Deadline, Thomas…has a vision for the show that spans seven seasons. Each season would be set in a different decade with everything, except the Lost Boys characters, completely changed. They’re immortal vampires, after all. The network sees it as a replacement to the massive hit The Vampire Diaries, which will be ending soon.

If that’s the case, it also means that the vampires themselves will likely be the protagonists of the series, unlike in the movie. That creates a bit of a good news/bad news scenario. The good news is that the show will undoubtedly make reference and pay homage to the film it’s pulling from. The bad news is that it sounds a bit more like The Vampire Diaries 2.0 than The Lost Boys.

Of course, if Thomas is willing to bring back Sax Man, any and all changes will be forgiven.
