While the Netflix Originals may not be as exciting as what we had in September with new seasons of Narcos and Longmire, and the first season of Luke Cage (which just arrived on Netflix Sept. 30, actually), October brings us some fine new Netflix selections, especially in the movie department.

Right off the bat, we’ll get several notable films, such as Dazed and Confused, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, UnforgivenTitanic, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

For shows, Netflix will add new seasons of a bunch of CW series (like Arrow, The Flash, Supernatural, iZombie, and Legends of Tomorrow), as well as new seasons of Netflix original series Black Mirror, The Fall, and The Ranch.

So all that is neat, but some bad news: We’re going to lose a lot of movies and shows as well, such as the Back to the Future trilogy (watch them all today before they leave tomorrow!).

Anyway, let’s first take a look at what’s coming to Netflix in October. (I’ve put some notable titles in bold to try to help you out, but keep in mind there may be some selections you find more important than I do.)

October 1
A Cinderella Story (2004)
Barbershop 2: Back in Business (2004)
Blue Streak (1999)
Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
Dazed and Confused (1993)

If *somehow* you still haven’t seen the Richard Linklater classic, that should be how you spend your Saturday. And even if you have, you know you want to watch it again. Dazed and Confused is one of my favorite “background” movies to throw on when I’m doing work or just hanging out and don’t want to put 100% focus into what I’m watching. It seems to only get better each year as you look back on actors Matthew McConaughey and Ben Affleck before they really became Matthew McConaughey and Ben Affleck as we know them now. Especially given the characters they play in this movie.

Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief (2008)
Fairy Tale: A True Story (1997)
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

An absolute classic. I recently wrote about the soundtrack to Ferris Bueller JUST NOW becoming available to the public. Yes, 30 years later, the soundtrack is finally available.

Gentleman’s Agreement (1947)
Ghost Town (2008)

Mascots (Netflix Original; 2016)

You’re either going to appreciate this humor or you’re not. (And if you don’t, that’s okay!) It’s most definitely not for everybody, but Mascots looks like it could be the new Netflix selection of the month for fans of this offbeat humor from Christopher Guest (Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman). Plenty of recognizable faces here.
