The combo of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly seems to work well. The chemistry between the two blended well in Talladega Nights and Step Brothers. Now the two are getting back in the saddle to solve some crime mysteries as Sherlock Holmes and Watson.

According to a report from Deadline.com, the two will star in Sony Films’ Holmes & Watson, which will bring a comedic spin on the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and his dear friend Watson. The film will be directed by Etan Cohen, with Ferrell playing Holmes and Reilly taking on the role of Watson. As if Sherlock Holmes has not been overplayed enough in Hollywood just yet, this one should reach a new audience when it eventually hits theaters.

As noted by Deadline, Reilly was not the first pick to play Watson alongside Ferrell. Sony wanted Sacha Baron Cohen when it picked up the script.

The studio originally bought the script with Ferrell attached to do the movie with Sacha Baron Cohen, who costarred with Ferrell and Reilly inTalladega Nights. That stalled. The project came back together very quickly over the past few weeks under production president Sanford Panitch and chief Tom Rothman; when scheduling slots opened for all parties, Sony seized the moment.

Production on the film is expected to begin around Thanksgiving of this year. A release date has not been announced.
